General Info

Nestled in the serene town of Hakone, Japan, Korean Home Dishes Madam Sung offers a true taste of authentic Korean flavors, serving up some of the most beloved dishes from Korea’s culinary traditions. Located at 368 Miyanoshita, Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa, the restaurant promises a warm, inviting atmosphere perfect for both locals and visitors craving comforting Korean meals.

One of the standout dishes at Madam Sung is the 石焼きビビンバ (Hot Stone Bibimbap). Served in a sizzling stone bowl, this dish combines rice, vegetables, spicy gochujang (Korean chili paste), and your choice of protein, creating a flavorful and crunchy experience with every bite. The stone bowl ensures that the rice crisps up beautifully, adding an extra layer of texture to this already satisfying meal.

Another crowd favorite is the 冷麺 (Cold Noodles). This refreshing dish is perfect for hot days, with thin, chewy noodles soaked in a tangy, chilled broth, often topped with a hard-boiled egg, cucumber, and sliced beef. It’s the ideal option for those looking to enjoy something light yet bursting with flavor.

Seafood lovers won’t be disappointed with the 海鮮チヂミ (Seafood Pancake). Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, this savory pancake is filled with shrimp, squid, and vegetables, served with a flavorful dipping sauce. It’s a great appetizer or snack to share with friends or family.

For a more robust option, the チャプチェ (Japchae) is a must-try. This dish features stir-fried glass noodles with a mix of vegetables, mushrooms, and tender strips of beef, all seasoned with soy sauce and sesame oil. Its slightly sweet and savory flavor makes it a perfect accompaniment to any main dish.

ナムル (Namul), a Korean side dish made with seasoned vegetables, is also a staple on the menu. The mix of spinach, bean sprouts, and other vegetables, all prepared with garlic, sesame oil, and soy sauce, offers a healthy and flavorful complement to the richer, heavier dishes.

Madam Sung provides a range of services designed for convenience and comfort. Whether you're visiting for lunch or dinner, the restaurant’s cozy ambiance makes it a great spot for a relaxed meal. The friendly table service ensures that guests feel well cared for, and the availability of clean toilet facilities adds to the overall experience. What customers say?

“ Wow wow wow, this was one of my favourite meals of the entire trip. The food was spectacular, fresh and full of flavour. After a cold and rainy day exploring Hakone, this meal was an absolute salve. Arigato Madam Sung! X ”

- Jade Harvey -

“ Excellent service, exceptional food. I’ve eaten here 4 times over the years, basically every time I travel to Hakone. It’s consistently been very good. One thing to note as with any small restaurant in Japan is make a reservation! ”

- C C -

“ A wonderful dining experience. The beef set is simply wonderful. The service is excellent and the restaurant has an amazing ambience. Highly recommended. Just a minute walk from the Fujiya Hotel. ”

- Nick Ellis -

“ We loved this Korean restaurant and came two nights in a row. Can very highly recommend the combo jiigae - the stew was packed with flavour and the marinade on the pork amazing. I also loved the vegetable pancake (in photo as 2x triangles) which at lunch you can get as a standalone dish. Very happy. Note: if you’re restricted on time, service is on the slower side as only one waiter. Didn’t bother us though. ”

- Emma Visentin -

“ Took us in without a reservation. We had a family style dinner with Kim chi, bulgogi, pork belly (so good!!) and clear noodles. Fantastic food and service! It was within walking distance from our hotel. Recommend. ”

- Noriko Carnes -

“ Bring your appetite! Our meal sets were very generous. Some of the best Korean food I’ve had, that includes in Korea. Lovely owner. The Korean tea was delicious. ”

- Sarah G -

“ Cosy and small (only 5 tables) Korean restaurant. The taste is adapted to Japanese taste, so it’s lighter, not as strong and spicy like original Korean taste. It’s difficult to find a restaurant that open late in Hakone, so this is a rare one (dinner session is 6-9pm). The Korean owner is exceptionally nice & kind. Highly recommended. ”

- VT -

“ Incredible meals - beautifully-presented, delicious and generous portions. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a lovely ambience. A very unexpected find here in Miyanoshita! ”
